THE ROLE OF TECHNOLOGY IN DALI'S WORK

Equally pertinent to this study is the technology and/or techniques  that Dali employed in painting La Persistencia De La Memoria. Dali referred to his work as a hand painted dream photograph. That he likens his work to a photograph is a subject of interest; he compares his work to that of a camera, a machine that has played a prominent role in the transformation of society's sense of temporality. That this particular painting also addresses the issue of temporality makes this situation quite peculiar, think, for instance, of diamond cutting diamond.
Also, Dali in capturing, quite like a camera, a single, moment, borrows the characeristic exactitude of Realist paintings, (Thomas Mical, Surrealism and Architecture, Psychology Press 2005), freezing a specific instant in time.
