Desigual

The vivid colours, the shining clothes and the glowing sign outside the store made me want to go in and take a closer look at every piece of clothing to contemplate their interesting designs. This is a feeling that I often get but I still don’t go inside the store. This time it was different however, this time I did go in and it was for a very specific reason, or word I should say. The name of the store, Desigual, is what really caught my attention. The fact that a store that sells interesting and colourful clothes, which has an appealing design and is located in a large mall in Abu Dhabi, is named with the Spanish word for ‘unequal’ changes things a lot for me, a first language Spanish speaker living in the Middle East.

Even form the outside I could understand their slogan: “It’s not the same”. Which made me feel the need to see how unequal the clothes really were, thus I went in. The first thing I see when I come in is a very interesting dress with a design that reminds me of the Cirque Du Soleil. Now I know that the dress is in fact part of a collection inspired by Cirque Du Soleil1. This makes me realize that the clothes do match the name of the store not only because they have unique and original designs but because they represent a cultural mixture too.
