Katia Tirado
Katia Tirado was born in Mexico City in 1965. Performance artist, body piercing artist, and actress, Tirado studied acting with Julio Castillo, Rafael Degar and Juan José Gurrola (1981-1984). Her performances include: Miss Koatl (Katastase 90 Festival, Berlin, 1991; Día 28 (Third International Performance Festival, X Teresa, Mexico City, 1994); Jálatela hasta que truene ( Festival Libre Enganche, San Antonio, TX, 1995); Exhivilización: Las perras en celo, (Fourth International Performance Festival, X Teresa, Mexico City, 1995; Carrillo Gil Museum and Merced Market, 1997); Lady Muck and her Burlesque Revue (cabaret for the Art Performance Festival Now, Nottingham, England, 1996); Lady Luck, (Bar La Perla and Epicentro Gallery, Mexico City, 1999); and La revolución intervenida, o inciertamente insertada en la incertidumbre, (Festejos del Milenio, Mexico City Zocalo, 1999). Her most recent theater foray is acting in Lorca sin Título, directed by David Hevia, 2001.
Tirado's work has been reviewed in the major Mexico City newspapers (La Jornada, Uno más Uno, Reforma, Milenio, etc.). She has been interviewed for the Desnudarse and ViceVersa magazines, and she wrote a short text for Desnudarse in April 2000.
