Java

Java, an object-oriented language derived from C and C++, was developed and released by Sun Microsystems in 1995. ("What is Java and Why do I need it?").  Brett Stalbaum claims he was attracted to Java because it is, for the most part, under a GNU Public License.   The Transboder Immigrant Tool uses J2ME, Java 1.2 Mobile

It's interesting to note the play of the naming metaphors in these companies and technologies, the dueling super-powers of sun and the programmer's lifeline coffee, not to mention the great prescient mediator, oracle.
