J2ME
J2ME is Java 2 Platform, Micro Edititon, which "isn't a specific piece of software or specification" but "Java for small devices" (Li and Kudsen 1). "Small devices" includes mobile phones and some pdas.
The appeal of Java as an operating platform is summed up in Sun's mantra "Write Once Run Anywhere" (WORA), which Knudsen and Li describe as a four-letter word due to compatibility issues with earlier implementations. This project makes use of the Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP), which is designed to add more portability for software across devices.
The platform does have a few security vulnerabilities.
