Adi Shapira: Journey of Self Discovery
by Tal Hauser and Victoria Pelman
Adi Shapira is an American-born child to Israeli parents and a fellow UCLA student. In this interview [link], she shares her family's journey from Israel to Los Angeles. Adi reveals how her background is expressed in the various aspects of her life and her creativity as an artist. She has been involved with the Jewish community in Los Angeles for the past eleven years as a member in the Jewish movement Habonim Dror North America; a Jewish Socialist-Zionist youth movement and a sister movement of Ha’noar Ha’oved Veha’lomed in Israel. She started as a counselor at the age of 12, moved up to become a director of educational programing, and is currently serving as an administration and development assistant. Adi is taking an important part in shaping the younger generations of the community. Though still in the process of completing her degree at UCLA, and establishing herself as the talented piano teacher (and player). Adi is a great role model and her story, though unique, is one that many of us can relate to and enjoy hearing about (if you are interested in contacting Adi click here).
In this collaborative project called The Role of Artistic Creativity in the Lives of Israeli Émigrés in L.A., we bring to you Adi’s story and share her artistic creativity. Adi’s journey is still at the beginning, but what we present here is a unique point of view of her world and how her cultural and familial background is brought on by her art and the related aspects of her life.
