Shulamit Gallery: Beginning of the Gallery

Once Shulamit moved into the A. Quincy Jones-designed home, she soon acknowledged the lack of art being displayed. Being aware that this home was designed in a style beneficial to an art collector, she decided that she must display art on the empty walls. This led her to contact one of her Vietnamese friends, who was in the art world and had many connections to other artists. Her friend soon recommended that Shulamit hold an art exhibition in her home. The exhibition was very well received, as it was an environment where both architecture and art came together. As a result, many art pieces were sold and other opportunities emerged. Both Shulamit’s friends and others from the Los Angeles community were interested in displaying their artwork in Shulamit’s home. After other exhibits of art in her home, USC Hillel contacted Shulamit, in hopes of having her work with and display the art of local Jewish artists. This led Shulamit to research not only Jewish artists, but also Iranian Jewish artists. Shulamit quickly learned that the Los Angeles community has a talented group of both Iranian artists and Jewish artists. She found that many of these artists were truly committed to their artwork. Soon after, Shulamit was interviewed by the Jewish Journal on her success in these showings. She continued showing art at her house a few more times. However, she soon realized she wanted a less intimate and more contemporary gallery space outside of her home. This led to the purchase and remodeling of a Venice Beach home soon to be called Shulamit Gallery.
