JQ's Collaboration with Iranian Leaders in the Los Angeles Community

Over the years, JQ has opened its doors to many community members who also strive to make a change in the LGBTQ community. A few of these people are Rabbi Jon Hanish and Bill Kaplan, Mastaneh Moghadam, and Kevin Goetz. These individuals have collaborated with JQ international in order to reach and help a large number of people. Rabbi Jon Hanish, from Temple Kol Tikvah, and Bill Kaplan, Executive Director for the Shalom Institute, have helped create the JQSA teen program. This program is geared towards LGBTQ Jewish teens, to provide them with a safe and supportive environment to express their sexual orientation and gender identity.

JQ has also worked with the wonderful Mastaneh Moghadam. She has been a major advocate for women’s rights, especially in the Persian community. In her work, she has also stressed the importance of LGBTQ rights, and has worked with JQ to bring the Persian LGBTQ community to the forefront, giving both families and individuals a safe space to discuss the issues affecting them and form a supportive network. JQ has also worked with Kevin Goetz, an LGBTQ Iranian philanthropist who has worked endless hours to bring awareness to the LGBTQ community and has aided JQ international in its success.

Rabbi Jon Hanish and Bill Kaplan, Mastaneh Moghadam, and Kevin Goetz are all inspirations and their collaborations with JQ have had a monumental effect on the LGBTQ community. These members have all been recognized for their efforts in the community at the JQ Awards Garden Brunch, allowing the organization to show their appreciation of these contributions and of these mentors’ dedication to making JQ international the non-profit it is today.
