Elat Market: Social Environment

Not only do customers come to shop for their necessary groceries, but they also come to see their friends and find potential partners for their children or grandchildren. Kevin Novinbakht explained, “Many customers come to see their friends. For example, they come into the market at 9:00 AM and leave at 12:00pm because people like to come and socialize with their friends.” He exclaimed that this is a fun place for members of the community to meet and greet each other. In addition, he explains that the relationships between customers and staff are very good. Novinbakht and many of the other employees know their customers on a personal level. Founder Golbari stated: “After a while, you became like a family member with them.” Former employee Johnny Yomtoubian explained that his interactions with the customers went very smoothly. He spoke to the Farsi-speaking customers in their native tongue to make them feel more comfortable.
