B'nai B'rith and the Fariborz Fred Matloob Unit, Los Angeles: Israel

On May 14, 1948, Israel declared statehood and began defending itself in its War of Independence. Increasing its support and commitment to the Jewish state, B’nai B’rith began to send shiploads of food, clothing, trucks, and other emergency aid and assistance to Israel. Later assistance included funds for schools, libraries, and orphanages as well as investments in businesses and government operations. In addition to helping Israel with advocacy and aid, B’nai B’rith also provided aid to those in need around the globe.
