Hospitals, Commercial and Office Buildings

The Baruch Corporation erected several hospitals, commercial structures, and office buildings.  Among the Jewish landmarks the company built were the Cedars of Lebanon Hospital on Fountain Avenue (shown below), the Jewish Orphans Home in Palms (now known as Vista del Mar), and the Hamburger Home for Working Women (later known as Aviv).

The Harris Newmark Building was erected by his sons as a memorial to their late father, one of the earliest Jewish settlers in Los Angeles in the mid-nineteenth century. At twelve stories and 160 feet high, it was the first high rise building downtown.  Located at 9th and Los Angeles streets, today the building is known as The New Mart Building.
