Who Is Hong Kong? 8

In Conclusion

Hong Kong will always, in my opinion, deal with the issue of being “within China but not of China” due to its colonial past. This past cannot be erased as shameful despite the efforts of nationalism, but should instead be used to better understand: who is Hong Kong? Hong Kong is an amalgam, unique to the East and West and to old and new. It is both a place and a people, and it is still struggling to find its place in the world. It is not quite ready to be understood, because it does not yet understand itself. But at the end, it is its own.
