Jean-Luc Godard's film Éloge de l'amour
French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard assails Schindler’s List in his 2001 film Éloge de l’amour (In Praise of Love) as his “prime negative object,” according to film critic J. Hoberman, by dint of the “totalizing re-creation of World War II and the Holocaust” in Spielberg’s film, epitomizing American misappropriations of the European past. (J. Hoberman, “Invisible Cities,” Village Voice, September 3, 2002)
