Epilogue

The experiments continue: Einbond is now working on adding text to the soundscapes he creates; he wants to see what happens if he records a speaker or singer -- not to look at the words and their meaning, but to record different ways of delivering the text in order to explore how we hear and process words as sound. Da Prato has begun to explore consciousness through movement: to think about what patterns of movement communicate about consciousness. She is also interested in composers who use bio-rhythms and biological systems to create music. She wants to create more scans not only for the film, but "to have them exist as music or visual art or whatever they turn out to be" (Da Prato 2012a). Lloyd is working on a book called Ghosts in the Machine (Rowan and Littlefield, forthcoming) a philosophical drama about minds, brains, and computers; and Subjective Time (MIT Press, forthcoming), an anthology on the philosophy, psychology, and neuroscience of experienced temporality. He is working with composer Eduardo Miranda "to use the experience of hearing a piece of music as the basis for remixing the piece itself" (Lloyd 2013a). Lloyd and Josipovic are together scanning subjects while they listen to the second movement of Beethoven's Symphony No. 7. Josipovic continues to analyze the effect of meditation on the structures and workings of the brain.

All are working on the feature-length film Music of the Hemispheres, which will contain all the clips shown here in their entirety, footage of the concert, and a great deal of additional material.
