Duet Between the Hemispheres

Having laid out the scientific aspects of the work and given us a chance to experience the sonifications as science-art, Lloyd played a duet between Da Prato's brain (through speakers on the right side of the room) and Chavez's brain (through speakers on the left side of the room). You can hear the duet in stereo if you listen to the following clip using headphones.

In this clip we can hear the distinctions between two individuals' responses to the same material: we hear that Chavez's brain responds with more activity than Da Prato's brain to this section of the stimulus film.

We can also hear when the two hemispheres work together. Popular science has fostered a notion that certain cognitive tasks are performed exclusively or primarily by the right brain while others are performed by the left brain. This has led to the false idea that people with particular cognitive strengths are either "left-brained" or "right-brained." In this duet we can hear when particular parts of the brain are activated together: we can hear the relationship between the hemispheres.
