About Us

Jessica Lipman is currently a M.A. student in The Department of Critical Studies at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Her research interests center on postcolonialism, transnationalism, and globalization, with interest in how visual media renders identity politics. Her professional and academic background includes media programming and curation, documentary filmmaking, teaching and multimedia journalism. She saves unnaturally small dogs as often as she can.

Mary Traester is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Comparative Literature at USC. Her dissertation examines melancholy in modernist poetry. She discusses poetic responses to historical traumas such as the American Civil War and the Irish struggle for independence from England, exposing how gendered and racialized bias has tended to occlude poems that do not respond to such losses with violence. She hopes her next project will include collaboration with pigeons.
