I ARM MYSELF
The thematic content that we have been centering the GJLA Theatre of the Oppressed group around for the last few months is Community-Based Responses to Violence.
The tagline for the GJLA TO group used to be "Arm Your Art". After many discussions around the use of the term "arm" in terms of navigating community-based responses to violence, we decided to create embodied images of the various things we arm ourselves with. The results were somewhat revealing... Everything from a smile, to lipstick, to media, to mase sprays... I decided to create individual videos to express some of what came from the workshop. At this stage, there are only two videos, but I intend to create more when time and participant availability allow.
