Welcome to GSLIS: An Exhibit of the Library and Information Science Program at University of Illinois

Welcome to GSLIS

The Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) at the University of Illinois is a one of a kind school. It is ranked the number one library school in the country by the U.S. News and World Report, and boasts an eclectic curriculum ranging from such diverse subjects as reference librarianship to data analytics.

GSLIS was founded in 1893, and while it started out small, it has since become one of the leading schools in information studies. In addition to Masters and PhD programs, GSLIS also provides opportunities for Certificates in Advanced Study and Masters in Bioinformatics. There is also the distinction of the LEEP program, which gives off-campus students the opportunity to take their classes and interact with students and faculty online.

This exhibit presents a brief history of the program through archival photographs. It will cover the library school's humble beginnings to its present-day evolution. Enjoy!
