He is the author of Mike Leigh and has written numerous articles on television storytelling, including such topics as Deadwood and Charles Dickens; Krzysztof Kieslowki’s The Decalogue; Dennis Potter’s The Singing Detective; third seasons; fifth episodes; and the six central elements of serial narrative. He attended the 2018 workshop, where he developed a video essay on Deadwood's use of rack focus, which he presented at the 2019 International Society for the Study of Narrative Conference in Pamplona, Spain.
