About the Virtual Museum

The Virtual Asian American Art Museum Project (VAAAMP) provides access to rich resources through museum, organizational, educational and scholarly collaborations enabled through digital humanities. VAAAMP models a new national and international digital platform to build exhibitions, shared educational resources, and forums for public dialogue and critical scholarship around visual arts collections.

Curated pathways
The virtual museum presents a multiplicity of possible curated pathways created by prominent scholars and curators. This narrative concept suggests the unfolding of an American art history in terms of artistic production within a world with multiple possible tellings and potential and interconnecting narratives. Presenting multiple pathways to enter and explore art historical frameworks takes into account transnational artists’ mobilities and international flows of artistic production, which is especially important in the telling of an Asian American art history.

Digital Humanities
Digital Humanities allows a way to visualize and present American art history as curated pathways of dynamic collections and material repositories in the U.S. and internationally. VAAAMP brings into discussion key topics of the developing discourse of digital humanities and American art history and the national and international standards for museum and institutional collections interoperability and digital access.

Foundations in Asian American Art
VAAAMP is part of a multi-faceted, multi-year research and archival initiative incorporating archives acquisitions, digital archives development and sharing, exhibition, publication, and programming components and is dedicated to furthering scholarly, critical, curatorial, and educational work on Asian American art, art history, and visual culture studies.
