Her father taught at Duquesne for many years and she has several other family members who are alumni. Cathy was a freshman when she became active in the Third Alternative. During that time, she helped canvass the South Side to raise money for Duquesne. She later worked as a teacher and counselor in Pittsburgh-area schools for over twenty years. She is currently retired.
