The Space Between: Literature and Culture 1914-1945

Editor's Acknowledgements

This special topics issue of The Space Between, titled “The Great War: Centenary Perspectives,” is indebted to the devoted labors of Mark Larabee, Guest Editor, U. S. Naval Academy Professor, and expert on World War I literature. I am indebted to him for the many, many tasks surrounding the successful acquisition and editing of the primary contents of this issue. The book review section has been assembled and edited by JJ Butts, our regular book reviewer. To JJ I owe my thanks and gratitude for pulling this off yet again. Monmouth University English graduate student in English, Rebecca Gokberk, has also been of great help with research and copyediting. Finally, I’d like to thank several Monmouth University colleagues for their support of this and all issues published during the years 2005-2015 when Monmouth University served as the institutional home of the journal: Susan Goulding, Chair of the English Department; Stan Green, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences; and Datta Naik, Dean of the Graduate School.

For the first time in the ten years that I’ve edited The Space Betweenit appears as an online-only publication. To Janine Utell, the new editor of The Space Between, I owe a tremendous thank you for moving this 2014 special issue forward into electronic publication in 2015. The issue appears one year later than planned, but still well within the four year period 2014-2018 that marks the centenary of the Great War. All future issues of The Space Between will continue to appear annually, in the fall, with special topic issues alternating with general issues. As in the print issues, the digital issues of The Space Between will feature 5-6 articles and a robust review section, all of which will uphold the interdisciplinary aims of our sponsoring academic organization, The Space Between Society. Digital publication will also provide new opportunities for audience engagement. We hope this development serves our authors and readers well.
