"Art in Modern Handcrafts"

Introduction

"Arts in Modern Handcrafts" was an exhibition hosted at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh in the year of 1979. Curated by one of the most influential women in the history of art, Betty Raphael, the show displayed around 300 objects made by about 250 craftsmen from around the country.
This show made its mark in the city of Pittsburgh at the Carnegie Museum and continued its success, while traveling around to several towns in the state of Pennsylvania. These destinations included, Franklin, Loretto, Coudersport, Lycoming, Altoona, the Tyler school of Art, the Westmoreland Community College, and the Youngstown Community College. All of these amazing locations would not have happened without the Grant that was given by the Pennsylvania Council of Arts.
With all of the hard work from creator, Betty Raphael, the Carnegie Museum's attendance broke a whole new record for "Arts in Modern Handcrafts". This was considered a modern craft movement based in Pittsburgh.
