Odysseus' Leadership in Homer's Odyssey

This seven-hour module asks us to consider the Odyssey from the perspective of Leadership. The first segment makes the case that the Odyssey is interested specifically in problems of leadership from its beginning and that this in part takes up themes explored in the Homeric Iliad. The second part asks students specifically to examine Odysseus’ actions and behavior as a leader during his own narrative. The third part focuses on Odysseus’ return to his position as a leader at the end of the epic and the problematic closure of the Odyssey.
