Puerto Rico's libraries, archives and museums road to recovery: A timeline of events after Hurricane Maria

November 2017

During November, two months after Hurricane Maria, additional funding opportunities emerged by the American Library Association (ALA), the National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and Spanish Speakers (REFORMA), the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), and the Association of Caribbean University, Research and Institutional Libraries (ACURIL). An intense rain event during the first week, flooded the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico and institutions that still had leaking problems like the University of Puerto Rico in Humacao had to act quickly to protect their collections.

The Heritage Emergency National Task Force performed their first assessment and visits to institutions under threat and a guide with basic information on collection emergency preparedness and response was released.
