Temples & Shrines

There are an abundance of Buddhist and Shinto shrines in the historical capital of Kyoto, according to an article by Rieko Tsubata on “The Kyoto Project”. As such, many omamori treasures can be found here. For instance, see the torii gates of Kyoto's Inari shrine below.

Although the original temple sites were entirely Japanese in physical location and origin, The Tsubaki Grand Shrine of America website shows how significantly Japanese culture has been diffused into America. The Tsubaki Grand Shrine, originally located in Mie Japan, interestingly has a North American branch-shrine called the Tsubaki Grand Shrine of America .The kami here are said to be “Sarutahiko-no-O-Kami, ancestor of all Earthly Kami, Kami of Guidance and activating motivation and raising spirituality. Kami of centering and groundedness and of progressing positively in harmony with Divine Nature, Kami who presides over everything within the atmosphere of our Earth.” Another Kami, Ame-no-Uzume-no-Mikoto, wife of Sarutahikono Okami, Kami of arts and entertainment, harmony, meditation, marriage and joy also resides here (Tsubaki Grand Shrine of America). Since they are a married couple, Tsubaki Shrine is said to be a great location to pray for a happy home, family prosperity and safety. Below are some images of Tsubaki Grand Shrine of America omamori.
