Thomas S. Popkewitz

Thomas S. Popkewitz is a curriculum theorist who serves on the faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His research interests are the “knowledge or systems of reason that govern educational policy and research related to pedagogy and teacher education,” according to his curriculum vitae. His research includes historical, ethnographic, and comparative studies of national educational reforms.  He has written or edited approximately 30 books and more than 200 journal articles. His recent research looks at the politics of globalization in education and cultural studies in education.  From 1999 to 2002 he co-conducted a study for the European Union about educational governance and social exclusion.
He holds honorary Ph.D. from universities as far and wide as Finland, Belgium, Portugal and Sweden. At the Russian Academy of Education, he received a Full Academician degree, the highest-level doctorate awarded in the country.  At the University of Wisconsin, he teaches courses in school reform, paradigms of educational research and evaluation, and globalization and teaching.
