Non-Traditional Narrative Structure

Collaborative Introduction

Due to its multi-media format, electronic literature is able to use nontraditional narrative structure regularly and to wide affect. two contrasting examples of such structures can be seen in "Killing Time at Lightspeed"  by Gritfish and "THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES!"  by Young-Hae Change Heavy Industries (YHCHI), wherein each use a very different narrative structure to convey almost opposite emotion and meaning to the reader. Specifically, in "Killing Time at Lightspeed"  the narrative format of a social media feed is used to make the reader feel isolated and powerless. However, in "THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES!",  the format of flashing frames and fast, upbeat music empowers the reader. Through the techniques these works use for such disparate ends, much can be learned on the impact of nontraditional narrative structures on the reader.
