Draft Workshop:
In pairs, share your google doc and answer the questions below.
But first! Read the opening paragraph and skim the rest of the essay.
Write down 6 observations (3 strengths and 3 improvements).
And then in 2-3 sentences describe the main points of the essay.
Now, reread the essay and answer the following questions:
Opening Paragraph
- Does the opening paragraph offer a clear definition of the keyword? Could it be further refined?
- Does the opening paragraph provide a roadmap of the sections to follow for the reader?
Body Paragraphs
- Does each paragraph connect to the keyword?
- Does the section include a history of the word? Necessary?
- Does the section engage with the appropriate scholarship from RH and/or CS?
- Does the section include examples? Are they appropriate? Better examples?
- Are these paragraphs/ sections that could be further developed?
- Are there paragraphs/ sections that aren’t compelling/ don’t seem to fit?
- Are there paragraphs /sections that are confusing/ difficult to understand?
- Are there clear topic sentences? Where might they be added/deleted?
- Are there clear transition sentences? Where might they be added/deleted?
Conclusion
- Is the conclusion related to the rest of the essay?
- Strategy: Does it provide the reader with future directions in Rhetoric and/or Communication Studies?
Overall
- Does every piece of evidence in the essay speak to the Keyword?
- Is it clear how the keyword connects to Rhetoric and/or Communication Studies? Are there ways this could be improved?
- Does the essay make connections to other keywords in our book?
- What are the politics of citation of the essay?
- Are there additional sources/ citations the essay should include?
