Course Description

This class is an introduction to the emerging field of digital humanities – specifically digital history. It is also a class infused with the principle of experiential learning, which means that you may do work that specifically serve the community of Pueblo. The class is organized around group projects that based in local archives. While I have a few suggestions with respect to topics and tools that you may want to use, the decision of exactly what you study ultimately depends upon your group.

While it would be great if you learned some specific historical facts while enrolled in this course, that is not its primary objective.  The primary objective of this course is to get you acquainted with the kinds of digital tools that historians use in both their research and their professional lives.  Along with those tools, it is help you to develop an adventurous, open mindset that will make you more willing to work through the kinds of technological problems that often appear in both the historical profession and the wider world alike.  Finally, in that wider world, your work is seldom an individual endeavor.  Therefore, this course is designed to help you get acquainted with the pitfalls and pleasures of intense group work.
