While it often found expression in graphic form (i.e., through maps), throughout most of Russian history - and the history of most states and cultures - geographic knowledge was more often collected, organized, and distributed through other genres.
The contents of this section describe the many forms of geographic information technology at work in the empire, as well as the individuals, organizations, and institutions that saw the empire through a spatial lens.
