Another short song that acts as a direct challenge between Burr and Hamilton. Burr calls out Alexander that he is hurt that he picked Jefferson when he hates what Jefferson stands for. Hamilton calls him out about how that may be true, but at least he stands up for what he believes in. Burr's response is a challenge to a duel.

Although the audience sees Burr say what he thinks, Hamilton still believes he does not stand up and fight for what he believes in and this becomes a factor towards this pivotal challenge. Until now, Burr has kept his cool to be above petty fighting, but this was such a huge hit to his dignity for a reason that, in his eyes, is terrible. So there is nothing left but to let things "happen" with a duel. The song is told in the style of the gentlemen writing letters so that is why the word "dot" is commonly used. It may be a short song, but it is a hit on what a man’s dignity really means as it leads up to the climax of the show.
