Young "Philip" is back and while he is reading a paper he learns that his father lost his senate "seat" to the upcoming Aaron "Burr". "Alexander" is not happy about this because he changed parties just to get a seat and run for (and win) senator of New York and no one knows what he is fighting for.
Alexander and Aaron are intertwine, but this really bothers Alexander because of how wishy-washy Burr is. Although it may not be a huge deal to everyone else, the fact that Burr switched parties is terrible in his eyes. It goes against standing up for what a person believes in and in the passionate eyes of Alexander that is unacceptable. This song is another shorter one that acts as a jumping off point for future problems. But the story told in this one is fascinating because this sort of thing happens in society today. I have seen several stories of officials changing their political position to get the vote and people on their side. It may not always work, but it is fascinating (and relatable to the audience's real world) that these things are still happening in the musical world, the historical world and the world of 2017.
