This song kicks off Act 2 with Burr and Hamilton going back to New York to study and accept government work. Tensions start off high as Burr tries to oppose his "talk less smile more" technique while Hamilton argues and says what he feels. In a new nation both men are determined to get ahead of the other. One night Hamilton approaches Burr asking him to write letters supporting the new constitution, but Burr denies him saying he would rather watch to see everything about the new country. Hamilton and the audience learn that Angelica is to marry a man in London and Eliza is still their supporting and loving him. Burr tells the audience that Hamilton starts "writing like he is running out of time" because history is watching and there is no way he is giving up the chance to change the world. Washington becomes President and even though Eliza begs Hamilton to stay, he becomes Washington's right hand man.
"Dear Theodosia" was such a soft song, that naturally "Non-Stop" contradicts that with lyrics and music more in the world of rap. Everyone is back and desires to be part of the changing world. Each character wants something for another as they discover their position in the new world. The difference in word counts is because of the amount of repetition. One character would start telling their main line and then it would transition to another. By the end of the song, they are all overlapping their sections to symbolize that even though they are separate, they are all pushing against the clock to create their legacy.
The battle between "Hamilton" and "Burr" rage on especially with the amount they use the word "you're" signifies how they are calling each other on their actions and make them accountable. It a situation of keeping your friends close, but enemies closer. His song pulls the audience right back into the action with lyrics that beautifully intertwine each character and allowing the audience to see how the character they are most fascinated with, is doing.
