Future of Removals Industry

Businesses in the removalist industry transport furniture from one location to another for residential and commercial customers. They may also provide additional services such as pack and unpack goods, and provide short and long-term storage.
Wikipedia describes a moving company as:

A moving company, removalist or van line is a company that helps people and businesses move their goods from one place to another. It offers all inclusive services for relocations like packing, loading, moving, unloading, unpacking, arranging of items to be shifted. Additional services may include cleaning services for houses, offices or warehousing facilities.

According to IBIS World, the removalist industry in Australia generated revenues of around $2bn in 2017:

The Removalists industry has grown at a steady pace over the past five years. The residential property market has strengthened over the period, particularly due to record low interest rates and stimulus packages for people to invest in property. Property prices and dwelling commencements have consequently increased, indicating that demand for residential property is high and the number of relocations is increasing. Rising demand for removalists is expected to boost industry revenue, which is anticipated to increase by an annualised 2.8% over the five years through 2016-17, to reach $1.9 billion.

The removalist industry provides several services including interstate and long-distance transport, local moving, and warehousing and storage.

In 2017 there were an estimated 9,070 moving businesses employing 21,452 people.

One such moving company is Melbourne removalists Dumbo Move.

Dumbo Move is a moving company, founded in 2011 in Melbourne, Victoria. They are located in the Eastern Suburbs, but service all of Melbourne, and Victoria.

Dumbo Move is a small moving company and started out specializing in small moves with a two-tonne van, and the choice of either one or two furniture removalists. Now Dumbo also services the medium-sized moving market including 1 – 3 bedroom houses and 1 – 8 person offices.

The moving industry is comprised of mostly small players in the market such as Dumbo Move and others including Man With A Van, Friendly Moving Men, and Little Red Trucks, but most of the revenues are generated by the big players.
These companies include Grace Removals Group with 40 branches across Australia, Allied Pickfords also with 40 branches across Australia who claim to have begun moving furniture and freight as early as 1646, and Kent Removals with over 70 years experience.

With industry revenue expected to grow at a compound annual rate of 2.8% over the next five years the future is looking bright for the removals industry.
