Background:
Lisa Blackwell is a Teacher Librarian at Polytechnic High School. She serves students in all grades and collaborates with all teachers. Mrs. Blackwell uses the LMS to collaborate with both teachers and students to facilitate access to information in a wide variety of formats. She also teaches AP Seminar and AP Research courses. Mrs. Blackwell collaborates with other teachers by linking library assignments, facilitating information to students, creating rubrics to grade assignments and assigning a final grade in the gradebook. Lisa Blackwell decided to leverage the LMS beyond just using as a gradebook. She engaged other teachers in collaborating and generating promising practices. Ms. Blackwell identified the lack immediate feedback to students as an obstacle for teaching and learning, and used her creativity and the LMS tools to apply a solution to this issue. Now she is in constant communication with students and can collaborate with teachers through the use of rubrics. This has resulted in an innovative practice and has solved an issue that was hinder collaboration, and made grading more transparent.
