Building Transparency and Academic Awareness
Background:
Jennifer Romero is a 7th grade English teacher and the College and Career Readiness Coach at Fulton College Prep. In this personalized practice example, Mrs. Romero discusses how the learning management system (LMS) has assisted in increasing communication with her students. Students often asked about their grades and assignments. It was becoming a challenge to set aside instructional time to inform students of their progress. Thus, leveraging the LMS to keep students current, informed, and agents of their own learning became an essential part of her routine. Her instructional repertoire has evolved and now includes more LMS elements such as posting classroom updates, discussions, and polls. She also piloted the digital content being integrated through Schoology for the school’s adopted ELA curriculum. This added transparency and 24/7 access for students to their ELA curriculum within the LMS.Learning Management System Audience for this example:

The content integration app had also allowed students to easily access online class materials. Everyone in her class has access to their assignments and grades anytime, anywhere. This is how Mrs. Romero provides equitable access to a high-quality curriculum and instruction in her classroom.
