Cuban Missile Crisis: Digital Exhibit

Cuban Missile Crisis

Kevin Poor

In 1959 there was a revolution in Cuba which led to the removal of President Fulgencia Batista and replaced him and their system of government with a new government and a new leader, Premier Fidel Castro. Castro cut ties with the United States when he came to power by removing U.S economic assets in Cuba and decided to work with the Soviet Union instead. These actions caused concern in the U.S. due to Cuba being right off the coast of Florida while they were in the midst of the Cold War with the Soviet Union. The events that would unfold after the shift in power in Cuba resulted in one of the scariest moments in the history of the United States.
