Hit or Miss: Student Safety at Case Western Reserve University

What does Case Western say?

Case Western administration definitely has a lot of current missions for the safety of their students. On their public safety website, they acknowledge that crime is a risk living in Cleveland, an urban and major city of Ohio. The university is patrolled by Case Western's very own police force with 26 total police officers, 22 building security officers, and five mobile security officers.[35] They have lots of information of how to report crime, their other security forces, and even different plans and procedures for emergencies. You can also find information on the different ways they share alerts and warn students of suspicious activity.

It is obvious that the administration tries to keep their students safe, but some questions still pop up.
For example, if Case has all these amenities for the students, why is there still significant crime on campus? Where is all of Case Western's money towards these programs going? Is safety even a priority on campus? How did a student get shot right outside of his home?

Of course, crime will be inevitable anywhere, but with all these different facilities and security measures, student assault rates should be much lower.
