Hit or Miss: Student Safety at Case Western Reserve University

Is Case Western really any different than the other universities in Cleveland?

As Case Western Reserve University is located in one of the most dangerous cities of the United States, crime is bound to happen. There are a multitude of colleges here in Cleveland, however Case Western seems to have some of the highest criminal offenses. The other universities do not have more security measures than Case does, just higher quality.

Comparing 2016 data from Case (11,664 students) to Cleveland State University (16,864 students), Cuyahoga Community College District (23,987 students), and John Carroll University (3,523 students), it is evident that crime on Case is unusually high.[17]

Case Western seems to have over three times all schools robbery rates, over five times all the schools burglary rates, and the second highest aggravated assault rate. Compared to the other schools, Case Western has the second smallest population of students, meaning these numbers should be even lower.

This poses the question: why is Case Western's crime so much higher?
