Letter from the Chair (2): Kendra L. Barker

Hello C2C Members:

Welcome to the Spring/Summer 2018 edition of C2C Digital Magazine!  There are a variety of informative articles that I know you will enjoy.  In this edition, there is a quick glance of what to expect at SIDLIT 2018!  Thanks to the digital magazine’s subcommittee who have worked hard on this edition.

SIDLIT 2018

Your C2C Steering Committee is working meticulously to prepare for this year’s SIDLIT (#sidlit2018) which will be August 2-3 (Thurs. and Fri.) at Johnson County Community College (JCCC).  We have two keynoters, Dr. Hap Aziz and Muriel Green.  For more about the schedule visit:  http://blogs.jccc.edu/c2c/sidlit/

A few of the topics for this year’s SIDLIT Conference include:

  • Accessibility in Online Learning
  • Document Design
  • Virtual Reality for Learning
  • Augmented Reality for Learning
  • Video Editing
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Online Education
  • 360-Degree Cameras in Online Learning

LMS Preconference

Do not forget the LMS Pre-Conference on August 1 (Wed.) at JCCC’s Co-Lab.  This conference features tracks for Administrators, Instructional Designers, Faculty/Instructors/Teachers, Educational Technologists, and Librarians and others.  Again, we will have our LMS Panel Discussion (hosted by Dr. Rob Gibson), so bring your questions.  This subcommittee is working hard to bring you up-to-date information. Some topics include:

  • Accessible Web Design and Instructional Visual Design
  • Infusing Online Courses in Canvas with AVID Strategies
  • Blackboard Ultra Roadmap
  • Making Electronic Textbooks from Publisher Immediately Available to Students in Moodle Courses
  • LMS Deployment on a Shoestring

SIDLIT Social

This year the SIDLIT Social is at Johnny’s Tavern Ridgeview (10384 S. Ridgeview Rd, Olathe, KS) starting at 5:30 on August 1.  Please join us for this informal get together. Thank you to Fort Hays State University for donating appetizers.

A Year as your Chair

I felt privileged and deeply enjoyed being C2C’s Chairperson this year.  The Steering Committee has accomplished many positive changes. Below is a list of accomplishments.

  • Updated and refreshed our C2C’s Bylaws.
  • Added two new positions, secretary and treasurer, to the Steering Committee Leadership Team
  • Conducted an analysis of the C2C’s Magazine
  • Gained insight from our members’ survey of last year's conference and are implementing some your suggestions to improve the conference experience.
  • Included a new awards category – Outstanding Course Design.
  • Increased our social media presence
Thank You!

I would like to thank each one of you.  This year has been one of toughest financially for schools.  However, our C2C community is still going strong.

In addition, I would like to thank the amazing and talented Steering Committee for their hard work.  The Committee is voluntary, and they have spent countless hours on C2C business.  I would especially like to thank this year’s Co-Chair, Nicole Frank for always being there and talking through issues with me. She is going to make an excellent Chair next year.

SIDLIT 2018 is one you won’t want to miss.  I look forward to meeting you at the conference.  Do not forget to register at SIDLIT Registration.

Sincerely,
Kendra Barker
