Henry Wallace & OSC President Strand Clash in Portland, OR: May, 1949

Ralph Spitzer wasn't the only person on the Left that President Strand tangled with and labeled a communist. In May of 1949, following the dismissal of his "communist" professors, Strand got into a heated argument with former Vice President Henry Wallace at a rally in Portland, and was escorted away by a policeman. Below are the letters sent to Strand that unanimously praise his actions, sent from a variety of people in the West. Their affirmation of Strand's actions against a former Vice President provides a glimpse of how vehemently anti-communist the West could be, especially during Malamud's time in residence.
