The Freedom Rally was organized to raise funds for the Civil Rights Movement. It was described by a Jet Magazine Reporter as the “largest and most enthusiastic civil rights rally in the history of this nation.” In her statement, Ms. Dandridge welcomed Dr. King to Los Angeles.
