Teatro 67 - 1393 S.W. 1st Street (Suite 204), Miami, Florida

Teatro 67 was the first Spanish salita in Miami. Miguel Ponce rented a suite on the second floor of this building which had been built a few years before in 1961 in what was an empty lot during the 1950s.

Although the space was very well-located --in the very heart of Little Havana, close to downtown, and with parking-- Ponce had a rough beginning, perhaps because he was not a good administrator, as a letter from Cecilio Noble to Herberto Dumé suggests. Teatro 67 had 70 seats and it opened with the comedy, ¡No..., por favor! with the hopes that a comedy would keep the space afloat. Unfortunately, they were able to keep it for one year. By the end of 1968, Ponce and several actors moved to New York where he founded the Teatro de las Américas.
