About M/M

Memories/Motifs traces the narratives of three different Holocaust survivors as they were told to American audiences in the immediate aftermath of the war. The Holocaust stories of Kurt Meier, Irene Guttman, and “Hannah” were represented multiple times between 1946 and 1950 in a variety of media, including radio, print, and performance.  The exhibit marks the changes in narrative as each story was transformed from one media to another and highlights themes of early Holocaust survivor representations such as immigration, Americana, and children.

Explore by path to follow the transformation of Kurt, Irene, and "Hannah"'s stories or examine central themes that are unique to early Holocaust survivor accounts.  You can also focus on the variety of media employed in the late 1940s that transmitted survivor narratives to American audiences.
