Arabic Enemy 101, finds Luke Kraman and Simone Andrews looking at the stereotypes of Muslims that circulate in the US. Using both entertainment and news coverage, they show the ways in which Americans are conditioned to believe that Muslim culture is monolithic and, in fact, dangerous. Using the metonymic tropes of "turban" and "beard" which represent Muslim identity, they demonstrate how Muslim has come to be synonymous with terrorist. However, by re-contextualizing film footage, they position the "new teaching tool: the classroom film" as a vehicle for intervening in these stereotypes, even as it has helped to spread them.
